Aidaf-Alberto Falck Chair in Strategic Management in Family Business

Aidaf-Alberto Falck Chair in Strategic Management in Family Business On 24 November 2003, an agreement concluded by the Italian Family Businesses Association (AIdAF) and Milan's Luigi Bocconi University instituted the university's first chair funded by an outside private organisation: the AIdAF -Alberto Falck Chair in Strategic Management in Family Business, currently held by Guido Corbetta and named after the entrepreneur Alberto Falck, AIdAF's founder and president.
AIdAF was set up in 1997. Its current membership comprises some 164 large, medium and small family businesses (including the De Agostini Group) that employ 460,000 people and have a total turnover of approximately € 150 billion (nearly 9% of Italy's GDP). It serves as a stable interlocutor for every stakeholder interested in initiatives related to family concerns

Funding of the chair will be borne partly by Aidaf and partly by a pool of associated firms that give a clear illustration of the variety of dimensions and sectors evident in Italy's family businesses: De Agostini, Falck, Associazioni per le Aziende Familiari (APAF), Inaz Paghe, Bottiglieri di Navigazione, Fontana Finanziaria, Mapei and Banca Sella.

The ultimate aim of the AIdAF -Alberto Falck Chair in Strategic Management in Family Business, as stated in its founding agreement, is to "promote the development of understanding of the workings of Italian family businesses through dedicated research activities; promote teaching programmes related to the problems of family businesses; take part in international discussion of topics concerning family businesses and realise the full value of their role and specificity in an Italian context; and to encourage the dissemination of data, information and evaluations of family businesses among the principal stakeholders".

In 2005, the Council of AIdAF (the Italian Association of Family Companies) decided unanimously to give the “Family Company” award to the De Agostini Group. This important prize was awarded on 11 November 2005 to Marco Drago, Chairman of De Agostini S.p.A.
